BPJPH Signs Letter of Intent with U.S. Halal Bodies to Enhance Indonesia–U.S. Bilateral Cooperation

Washington, D.C. — On May 20, 2025, Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), signed a Letter of Intent with two U.S.-based halal certification bodies: ISA Inc. (Islamic Services of America) and USA Halal Chamber of Commerce Inc., operating as ISWA Halal Certification Department.

The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, D.C., and was witnessed by embassy officials including Business Force Sade Bimantara, the Agricultural Attaché, Trade Attaché, and other diplomatic staff.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in halal certification, with a focus on building systems that are transparent, accountable, and internationally credible.

“This cooperation is a strategic move to meet the growing demand among Indonesian consumers for high-quality halal products, while also reinforcing Indonesia’s global leadership in high-value, halal-based economic development,” said Ahmad Haikal Hasan following the signing.

Titled “Robust Commitment in Implementation of Halal Quality Assurance,” the letter of intent outlines a framework for deeper collaboration between BPJPH and its U.S. counterparts. The agreement comes as Indonesia’s demand for halal-certified imports—particularly meat and other consumer goods—continues to grow, and the United States demonstrates increasing capacity to meet those needs in accordance with Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).
