Cambodia moves to strengthen Halal certification framework
By Khmertimeskh.com
Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chairwoman of the Cambodian Halal Steering Committee (CHSC), on Monday led an extraordinary meeting of the CHSC at the Ministry of Commerce, highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen regulatory standards and boost confidence in Cambodia’s Halal products.
The meeting was attended by Othsman Hassan, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Mission for Islamic Affairs of Cambodia, along with CHSC members representing relevant ministries and institutions. Participants reviewed, discussed, and provided input on two key policy documents critical to the development of the national halal ecosystem.
These included a draft declaration on the application for certification of technical standards for Cambodian halal products, as well as a draft concept paper on a campaign to promote and facilitate the registration of Halal certification. The proposed measures aim to improve regulatory clarity, ensure compliance with recognised standards, and enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian Halal products in both domestic and international markets.
The initiative aligns with Cambodia’s broader strategy to tap into the expanding global Halal economy, particularly in food processing, agro-industry and consumer goods, where certification is increasingly essential for market access and investor confidence.
Before the meeting commenced, participants observed a solemn ceremony paying tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
