Malaysia inks MoU with Türkiye to expand investments, Halal industry

TÜRKIYE is seen as a strategic gateway to Europe, offering Malaysia opportunities to expand investment and scale its Halal industry internationally.

According to a report by News Straits Times (NST) today, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) CEO Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim (picture) stated that Malaysia and Türkiye will enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Turkish investment agencies to enhance bilateral collaboration in investment and industrial sectors.

“We will be exchanging an MoU with Invest in Türkiye to intensify cooperation, including attracting more Turkish investments into Malaysia as well as Malaysian investments into Türkiye,” he said.

The collaboration will include industrial and technological sectors, leveraging Türkiye’s strengths in aerospace and defense, with the aim of attracting Turkish multinational suppliers to use Malaysia as a gateway into the Asian market.

Meanwhile, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) CEO Abu Bakar Yusof said Türkiye is not merely an export market, but also serves as a gateway to Europe and the Balkans.

“We view the Turkish market not only for its domestic potential, but also as an entry point to the European and Balkan markets. This presents a major opportunity for Malaysian exporters to use Türkiye as a hub to penetrate the European market,” he stated.

Abu Bakar added that multiple sectors, including the Halal industry, will benefit from the cooperation, supported by Türkiye’s strategic location and predominantly Muslim population.
