Jambi University, UPM strengthen halal product testing ties

Muaro Jambi (ANTARA) – Jambi University (Unja) is expanding its collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in halal product testing, following a recent visit to UPM’s Halal Product Research Institute (IPPH) in Selangor.

The visit has initiated a partnership between Unja’s Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) and UPM, Coordinator of Unja’s Halal Studies Center, Mar Atun Saadah, said here on Wednesday.

This new collaboration builds on existing ties, which include a keynote address by IPPH Deputy Director Prof. Yus Aniza Yusof at a Unja-hosted international seminar.

During the seminar, Prof. Yus expressed interest in joint research, teaching, and community outreach, which Unja now aims to formalize.

Mar Atun highlighted key differences between Indonesia and Malaysia’s halal ecosystems, noting that Indonesia’s shift toward mandatory certification has sparked innovations that simplify processes for businesses while also creating new challenges.

She also stressed that using a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure the environmental impact of halal products can contribute positively to sustainability.

Unja sees the partnership with UPM’s IPPH, which is a key reference center for halal testing in Malaysia, as a crucial step toward making a greater impact in halal science and community development.

According to UPM’s official website, IPPH aims to be a “one-stop center” for studying all aspects of halal products.
